American Lung Association provides guidance amid Southern California wildfires

As of today, over 20,000 acres are burning with minimal containment reported, forcing hundreds in Southern California to evacuate. Smoke from the Mountain Fire and other blazes in the region has led to unhealthy air quality conditions not only in Ventura County but also across much of the area and even into neighboring states.

The American Lung Association advises residents to adhere to evacuation procedures issued by local authorities. Wildfire smoke poses risks even to healthy individuals. It is recommended that people consult their healthcare providers on how to prepare for exposure, particularly if they work outdoors, are pregnant, under age 18 or over age 65, or have asthma, COPD or lung disease, chronic heart disease or diabetes.
