This morning, over 350 advocates for lung health gathered in Atlanta to participate in the American Lung Association's 11th annual LUNG FORCE Run/Walk. The event was held at Atlantic Station Green Space as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Participants successfully raised more than $80,000 to support the association's mission to combat lung cancer and lung disease.
Tyler McCurry, a member of the Lung Association’s Georgia Leadership Board and national sales director at Circulogene, stated, “Every two minutes, a person in the U.S. learns they have lung cancer. But there is hope. Thanks to increased awareness and advancements in detection and treatment, the survival rate has increased by 44% in the past decade.” He added his gratitude towards the Atlanta community for their efforts against lung cancer, emphasizing that "the funds raised will go directly towards our work to save lives and end this devastating disease."
November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, during which the Lung Association aims to increase awareness about lung cancer screening and raise funds for critical research. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Screening plays a crucial role as it detects lung cancer early when it is potentially curable. Despite its importance, only 3.8% of high-risk individuals in Georgia were screened.
LUNG FORCE is an initiative designed to unite those affected by lung cancer, including survivors and caregivers. The Run/Walk also highlights personal stories and advocacy efforts within the community.
The event was supported by local presenting sponsor Northside Hospital and other sponsors such as Raymond James, Circulogene, Wellstar Health System, Genentech, and national corporate team partner Kindred Hospitals.
