NORD releases special report on neurological diseases

Rare Disease Day was held Feb. 29, a day set aside to raise awareness about the world's approximately 7,000 conditions that are classified as rare diseases.

To honor the occasion, the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) published a special supplement to the February issue of Neurology Reviews (NR), titled the "Rare Neurological Disease Special Report."

The report covers topics such as challenges faced by health care providers in treating rare diseases, rare disease initiatives headed by NORD and Frontline Medical Communications (FMC), and recent rare disease-related discoveries.

Many rare diseases are neurological in nature, affecting more than 30 million patients in the U.S. alone -- nearly one in 10 people nationwide.

The report is available in its entirety at www.neurologyreviews.com.
