Ohio State Health & Discovery highlights telestroke care for rural patients

Cynthia Bego, a 76-year-old resident of Hillsboro, Ohio, experienced symptoms of a stroke during the early hours of Feb. 17. She was awake watching television when she suddenly could not move her left leg and began slurring her words. After unsuccessfully trying to call her son-in-law due to speech difficulties, Bego called 911. The dispatcher quickly recognized the urgency of her situation.

An ambulance arrived at Bego's home within minutes and transported her to Highland District Hospital for evaluation and treatment for a possible stroke.

The case underscores the importance of timely intervention in rural communities where access to specialized care can be limited. Ohio State Health & Discovery includes hospitals and outpatient facilities as part of its academic medical center, according to the official website.
