BioSpace highlights 11 companies hiring in New York life sciences sector

BioSpace announced on Mar. 25 that job opportunities in New York's life sciences industry have increased, with several major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies currently hiring. The announcement comes as the state continues to be a hub for leading employers such as AbbVie, Amgen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Daiichi Sankyo, Eli Lilly, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Roche and Takeda. New York is also home to academic institutions including New York University and Columbia University.

The rise in employment opportunities is notable for job seekers interested in the pharma or biotech sectors. According to BioSpace data cited in the release, job postings for positions based in New York on the BioSpace website rose by 22% year over year and by 13% month over month during February. There are currently about 300 open positions posted.

Among the companies with available roles:

- AbbVie has openings such as specialty representative (migraine) in White Plains; MSL/senior MSL (dermatology) in Albany; and specialty representative (metabolics) in Syracuse.

- Amgen is seeking candidates for senior medical science liaison (NMOSD and gMG-rare disease) in Buffalo; district sales manager (dermatology) in New York City; and senior oncology specialist-TOPAZ also in Buffalo.

- Daiichi Sankyo is hiring two oncology territory managers for hematology—one each based in New York City and Albany.

- Eli Lilly lists around a dozen jobs including scientist (histology discovery technologies) in New York City; pharmaceutical sales territory manager (dermatology specialty) in Buffalo; and pharmaceutical sales territory manager (neuroscience specialty) in Manhattan.

Other firms mentioned include Formation Bio with about 20 openings primarily located in New York City across various scientific roles. Novo Nordisk seeks cardiometabolic care specialists throughout Poughkeepsie, Plattsburgh and Elmira. Protara Therapeutics has director-level positions open within clinical operations and scientific communications based out of New York City. Recursion offers roles such as clinical trial manager and research scientist within molecular dynamics also located there.

Regeneron leads with more than 250 vacancies statewide including senior microbiology scientist positions at Rensselaer; vice president of quality assurance at Troy; plus management posts at Tarrytown’s clinical research informatics department. Sanofi is looking to fill three roles at Pearl River: production technician; deputy director of manufacturing planning/support; maintenance reliability engineer. Takeda seeks a senior medical liaison focused on oncology solid tumors for its NYC office along with a regional business leader specializing dermatological products based out of Rochester.

This increase signals continued growth within the state’s life sciences sector as major employers expand their teams.
