Senator Dick Durbin has been recognized by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) for his efforts in advancing food allergy safety in schools. The acknowledgment comes after the passage of the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act, which was included in the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act.
The new law requires school food service staff to receive training on food allergy safety. This measure aims to enhance the protection of students who have food allergies across the United States.
Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE, issued a statement expressing appreciation for Senator Durbin's work. "Thank you, Senator Dick Durbin, for your leadership in championing the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act and seeing it signed into law as part of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act. By ensuring school food service staff receive training on food allergy safety, you've helped make schools safer for millions of children nationwide. FARE is grateful for your commitment to protecting students and supporting families living with food allergies," Poblete said.
The act is expected to improve awareness and response to food allergies within educational settings.
