Spending the last month of her pregnancy in the hospital was not what Madelyn Staten had planned. After being diagnosed with preeclampsia at 30 weeks, she was transferred from Chillicothe to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Staten credits the staff for helping her through a difficult and isolating time. “The nurses always took the time to listen and even crack jokes with me to cheer me up. To this day, we keep in touch,” Staten said.
Staten had hoped to give birth closer to home but found reassurance in the care she received at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Her experience has made her look forward to the opening of the new 26-story University Hospital at Ohio State, scheduled for February 22, 2026. “I always felt like I was in the best hands, but now there will be a space to match the excellence that is Ohio State,” she said.
The new facility aims to provide a supportive environment for childbirth, featuring private rooms with large windows for natural light, modern furniture, valet service, and conveniences such as mobile coffee ordering.
