Mayo Clinic highlights advancements in healthcare strategy during 2024

In 2024, Mayo Clinic made significant strides in advancing its Bold. Forward. strategy aimed at transforming healthcare. The organization's efforts were underpinned by a commitment to innovation and patient care, resulting in several key achievements throughout the year.

"Mayo Clinic's success in 2024 reflects the innovative spirit of our exceptional staff and their dedication to meeting our patients' changing needs," stated Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. He highlighted the organization's focus on providing unparalleled care while discovering new cures to improve lives globally.

The clinic increased investment in staff pay and benefits to $10.5 billion, introducing initiatives such as recognition payments, financial counseling services, enhanced mental health support, an expanded medical plan network, and a refreshed recognition program. Christina Zorn, chief administrative officer of Mayo Clinic, emphasized the importance of investing in staff: "Our staff are our greatest strength, and we invested significantly in them in 2024 and took intentional steps to demonstrate how much we value their commitment."

Mayo Clinic continued expanding its AI-enabled healthcare platform across four continents with nine distributed data network partners collaborating around 56 million patient lives. Partnerships with NVIDIA and Aignostics facilitated advancements in pathology through powerful AI models using large datasets.

The clinic's Platform initiative Cancer Care Beyond Walls allows cancer patients to receive chemotherapy at home. Additionally, a pilot program called Stat Care at Home provides rapid care for patients without emergency department visits.

Mayo Clinic is also investing heavily in infrastructure through its Bold. Forward. Unbound initiative which includes new clinical spaces and logistics centers designed to integrate physical spaces with digital capabilities.

In Rochester, critical design work began for Bold. Forward. Unbound., introducing new flexible clinical space upon completion. In Florida, a five-floor hospital expansion will include the first Carbon Ion Therapy program in the Western Hemisphere.

The Phoenix campus will see a 1.2-million-square-foot expansion including new operating rooms and patient beds alongside research facilities like the Integrated Education and Research Building fostering scientific collaboration.

Expansion projects also continued within Mayo Clinic Health System locations such as Mankato and La Crosse with advanced telehealth technologies enhancing patient care while supporting community healthcare services.

"We're committed to working with partners to accelerate the next generation of advanced technologies through Mayo Clinic Platform," said Dr. Farrugia highlighting ongoing efforts toward expanding both physical and digital infrastructure benefiting patients worldwide.
