HHS continues to offer a 'lifeline for health care providers across the country'

Provider Relief Funds are filling the financial gaps of health care providers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has recently announced that it is issuing more than $560 million in Provider Relief Fund (PRF) Phase 4 General Distribution payments to over 4,100 providers throughout the country.

“Provider Relief Funds have been a lifeline for health care providers across the country,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said, according to HHS.gov. “From providing life-saving care to tackling workforce challenges, these funds will help many health care facilities weather the pandemic’s continued impact. The Biden-Harris administration will continue to ensure our providers have the necessary support and tools to keep our families safer and healthier.”

Through the Health Resources and Services Administration, the department has already distributed approximately $11.5 billion in PRF Phase 4 payments in all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and five territories, according to HHS.gov.

The funds received by the providers are used to continue business and support patient care.

Eighty-six percent of all Phase 4 applications have now been processed. The rest of the applications will be reviewed until the early part of this year, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services reported.
