Biden: ACA makes health care 'a reality for a record number of people'

President Joe Biden proudly reported that under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), this year, 14.5 million Americans have signed up for health health insurance under the plan.

These signups included over 10 million who enrolled through HealthCare.gov. Biden touts that the American Rescue Plan was able to lower costs and has expanded access to health care more than any action since the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

“Health care should be a right, not a privilege, for all Americans,” Biden said Jan. 27, according to ABC News. “We are making that right a reality for a record number of people, bringing down costs and increasing access for families across the country."

Biden said new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that his administration's efforts to sign more people up through the Affordable Care Act have had an impact. He added that one in seven uninsured Americans gained coverage between the end of 2020 and September 2021, with lower-income Americans gaining coverage at the highest rate, according to Reuters.

State-run insurance markets in California, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C., will be open until Monday, Jan. 31.

Approximately, 30 million people are covered through the Obama-era law, according to ABC News.
