The online retail giant Amazon.com has recently reached a deal with Hilton Worldwide Holdings to sell virtual medical services through the company's health care business, according to a report by Reuters.
The Hilton account is considered to be a massive get for Amazon.
Kristen Helton, director of Amazon Care, told Reuters, "We will have clinicians in the loop for a period of time until we can actually trust that AI (artificial intelligence) and those technology solutions are taking care of the patient in the way that is best."
Hilton is Amazon Care's first customer in the hospitality business and is expected to open the door for future customers in the same industry.
Amazon Care has been seeking customers aggressively for its on-demand virtual health services that allows users to use message and video chats to contact clinicians and receive care. The program was piloted to its employees in the Seattle area during 2019. The service began being marketed at a nationwide level this summer.
Amazon also offers house calls in Seattle and the Washington D.C.-Baltimore metro area, with plans to expand to other cities as well.
Hilton has about 141,000 employees worldwide, and all of its U.S. staff enrolled in a corporate health plan will be given Amazon Care as part of their benefits next year.
