Affordable Care Act enrollment to end Sunday: 'Get the peace of mind that health insurance offers'

The health insurance enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will end this Sunday, Aug. 15.

People who are uninsured or underinsured may apply online for health coverage through the ACA via HealthCare.gov. The Marketplace Call Center, providing assistance in more than 200 languages, can also be contacted for enrollment at 1-800-318-2596. TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325.

“Americans who need health coverage should act now,” Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure said, according to Alabama Political Reporter. “This is your opportunity to find quality, affordable health coverage that will protect you and the health of your family into the future. Please go to HealthCare.gov to enroll in a comprehensive plan that is affordable."

There were 160,249 Alabamans who signed up last year for health care through the ACA, according to CMS. On average, Alabamians saved 42% on health care coverage through the ACA.

“Health coverage is more affordable than ever for new and returning Americans at HealthCare.gov,” U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra told the Alabama Political Reporter. “We encourage  everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get the peace of mind that health insurance offers. If you are in need of coverage or you have a friend or family member who is, please sign up today and encourage others to do the same.”
