Stony Brook University Medical Center to hold neuroscience symposium

Stony Brook University Medical Center will bring together leaders in the neuroscience field from around the nation at its second annual “Meeting of the Minds” symposium on Nov. 4 at the East Campus.

The scientists will gather to discuss the latest research and clinical care advancements. Presentations will focus on five topics — epilepsy and sleep disorders, pediatric neurosurgery, neuroimaging, neurosensory disorders and psychiatric disorders.

Epilepsy and Sleep Disorders presentations will include “The Medical Journey to Seizure Freedom” by Dr. Rebecca Spiegel and  “Non-Image Forming Vision: Light, a Clock and Photo Somnolence” by Dr. Lawrence P. Morin.

Pediatric Neurosurgery presentations will include “Chiari Malformation” by Dr. Michael Egnor and “Metabolomic Consequences of General Anesthesia” by Dr. Helene Benveniste.

Neuroimaging presentations will include “Endovascular Treatment of Aneurysms” by Dr. David Fiorella and “Imaging the Human Brain in Diseases of Addiction” by Dr. Joanna S. Fowler.

Neurosensory Disorder presentations will include “The Sweet Taste of Anticipation” by Dr. Alfredo Fontanini and “Vestibular Dysfunction by Dr. David Schessel.

Psychiatric Disorder presentations will include “Autism Spectrum Disorders: Clinical Update” by Dr. John Pomeroy and “Using Studies in Rats to Unravel the Neurobiological Basis for Male Vulnerability in Psychiatric Disease” by Dr. Mary F. Kritzer.
