Anthem leaving Wisconsin, Indiana health insurance marketplaces

Anthem, a health insurance provider that has stood by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, longer than many other insurers, said it is pulling out of the Wisconsin and Indiana marketplaces due to "volatile" markets.

Bertha Coombs, a CNBC correspondent, tweeted on June 21, "@AnthemInc pulling out of Wisconsin and Indiana #Obamacare exchanges for 2018."

Anthem has sold health insurance under Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 14 states, but has had to reduce its scope of coverage, as individual markets are becoming more and more limited. Anthem's exit from Wisconsin and Indiana comes shortly after its recent announcement to leave Ohio.

Though Anthem is removing itself from various locations, it will remain an insurance carrier in a number of states. Due to the disagreements of the Trump administration, however, Anthem, like many other health insurance providers, has had to limit itself and reassess its scope of service.
