Heart association's obesity report outlines fight that lies ahead

The American Heart Association recently released a statement about the annual State of Obesity report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Trust for America’s Health.

The report outlines the future work that must be done to fight obesity within the U.S. It also shows the progress that has been made in recent years, as health professionals work to make people more aware of the dangers of obesity.

“We underscore the urgent call to action for more effective use of resources from every level of government to ensure that health equity is achieved across our nation,” American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown said. “The American Heart Association will continue to take a leadership role in working to make this vision a reality.”

The report also demonstrates that physical inactivity rates have increase in many states. There are also countless families who don’t have access to healthy, affordable food and to areas that are safe for them to be physically active.

“Significant concerns remain for the health of blacks, Latinos and Native Americans as well as low-income communities and people living in the South,” Brown said. “Targeted food and beverage campaigns encourage minority communities to choose junk food over healthy foods.”
