Men’s health campaign promotes family medicine

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recently published a new survey about men’s health, which shows that there have been significant improvements in men’s health since 2007.

This survey is one of the AAFP’s most frequently accessed resources, proving that men’s health is an important topic.

According to the survey, 52 percent of men exercise regularly, and 80 percent of men use a regular care source. In contrast, 48 percent of men live with at least one chronic health condition.

AAFP health leaders -- including Dr. Wanda Filer, president of the AAFP -- have spoken with television stations, radio stations, social media leaders, talk show hosts, journalists and more to discuss important health concerns for men. This ongoing men’s health campaign aims to improve men’s health throughout their lifespans, giving patients reduced health care costs and enhanced health-related outcomes.

Many of the AAFP discussions and interviews have been recorded for later use. The campaign organizers and public relations staff will use the information to promote certain vital points of the campaign. The goal is to raise awareness of men’s health as well as family medicine in the U.S.

The AAFP sees this campaign as just one opportunity in its strategy of heightening family medicine’s reputation in the U.S.
