New FCC broadband map furthers chronic disease battle

The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) recently launched the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Connect2Health Task Force (C2H), which is dedicated to the new Mapping Broadband Health in America technology.

The goal of the broadband and health care connection is to discover crucial data that will be useful for decision-makers. The new technology helps to guarantee more data-driven, efficient decision-making for leaders. It is an important part of bridging the connection between health and broadband, giving stakeholder collaboration more information.

Data from the mapping tool could give health experts a strong foundation for their application and creation of health care infrastructure. This could allow decision-makers to stop health disparities, enhance access to quality health care and detect potential ways to make telemedicine and telehealth changes.

“With more than one in two Americans living with at least one chronic disease, we urgently need programs and policies that can deliver positive results in the fight against the number one cause of death, disability and rising health care costs in our country,” PFCD Chairman Ken Thrope said. “PFCD has long supported efforts that convene stakeholders in both the public and private sector to uncover gaps and to prioritize resources to improve overall health and wellbeing. Technology is often at the center of solutions, but for those solutions to reach all who could benefit, broadband connectivity is essential.”
