Leaders honor first anniversary of 21st Century Cures Act's passage

Exactly one year ago, the U.S. House of Representatives made an overwhelming 344-77 vote in favor of passing the 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6, and the U.S. has seen major progress since that time.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee has measured the progress with three markups focused on 18 provisions that are included in the Cures package. All of these were passed through voice votes.

Two additional supporters have joined the #Path2Cures movement: Walter Whitt -- a high school graduate who is fighting cystic fibrosis and is planning to attend Harvard University this fall -- and Roger Daltrey, commonly known as Dr. Phil on television.

“We’ve made incredible strides on the #Path2Cures, and continue to make important progress every day,” Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) said. “Every voice, every smile in the face of illness, every story is important in this collective effort, and to our countless partners in this effort to deliver hope -- we are going to get the job done. The stars have clearly aligned for Cures over the last year. We are committed, the Senate is committed, and the administration is committed: 2016 is the year for Cures.”
