Mohawk SmartStrand carpet styles receive asthma and allergy friendly certification

Mohawk Industries announced on April 13 that its SmartStrand carpet styles enhanced with Pur-Ease technology have become the world’s first carpets to receive the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification. The certification, awarded by a program jointly operated by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), verifies that these carpets reduce allergens under defined test conditions.

This development is significant for people living with asthma or allergies, as certified products can help create healthier indoor environments. The Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification Program evaluates products against strict standards to determine their suitability for individuals with asthma and allergies.

According to the press release, "Independent certification verifies allergen reduction under defined test conditions." Products that pass these tests earn the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification Mark, which helps consumers identify options designed for healthier homes.

The program certifies a range of products including air cleaners, air filters, paints, bedding, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, cleaning products, flooring and more. More information about certified products is available at AAFA’s website.

Mohawk Industries describes itself as a leading global flooring manufacturer producing carpet, rugs, ceramic tile, laminate, hardwood, stone and vinyl flooring. Its brands include Mohawk, American Olean, Daltile and others. The company states it has transformed from an American carpet manufacturer into what it calls the world’s largest flooring company over the past decade.
