American Lung Association announces five bike treks to support lung health in 2026

The American Lung Association announced on Apr. 9 that it will host five bike trek events across the country from May through October, aiming to raise funds for lung disease research, clean air advocacy, and related programs and services.

These cycling events are designed to engage participants of all skill levels, offering routes from family-friendly 10-mile rides to a three-day, 180-mile trek. The association said the rides will take place in locations such as Alaska's mountains, Maine’s forests and coastline, and Florida’s Gulf Coast towns. New gravel ride options and e-bikes are welcome.

Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association, said: “The American Lung Association hosted its first bike trek more than 40 years ago, and these events continue to be a great way to get together, enjoy nature and have fun while doing good. Most importantly, the American Lung Association’s cycling events support the millions of people nationwide facing lung disease and their families. You can make a difference, one pedal stroke at a time.”

The five treks have a combined fundraising goal of over $1.9 million. The association stated that ninety cents of every dollar raised goes directly toward research into new treatments for lung cancer and other diseases; programs supporting healthier lives; clean air initiatives; and tobacco-free efforts.

According to the official website of the organization the American Lung Association supported groundbreaking research contributing to advancements in lung disease treatment and prevention. The association has extended its influence nationwide via local offices and community initiatives addressing lung diseases according to its official website. It also received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for fiscal management as well as accountability and transparency according to its official website.

Wimmer serves as president and CEO according to the official website, with expanded impact achieved through local offices across the nation according to its official site.
