Ochsner Health held the Iberville Parish Health Fair & Community Celebration on March 28, offering a free event focused on cancer awareness, prevention, and access to healthcare for local residents and families.
The event took place at MSA West Academy in Plaquemine and aimed to connect the community with local healthcare providers. Attendees received screenings for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, as well as colorectal and lung cancer risk assessments. CPR education was also provided. The health fair included interactive educational activities such as a walk-through inflatable colon exhibit, speaker panels, giveaways, family games, and an Easter egg hunt for children.
"At Ochsner, we are committed to meeting communities where they are, and our partnership with Iberville Parish makes care accessible and convenient," said Chuck Daigle, CEO of Ochsner Baton Rouge. "Events like the health fair raise awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of regular screenings while strengthening connections between our providers and the communities we serve."
Iberville Parish has higher colorectal cancer rates compared to nearby areas according to recent Community Health Needs Assessment data. Ochsner leaders say that expanding education about prevention and increasing screening opportunities is important for improving long-term health outcomes.
"Iberville Parish is grateful for Ochsner's continued partnership and investment in the health of our residents," said Chris Daigle, Iberville Parish president. "By providing no-cost screenings and prevention resources directly to our community, this event helped remove barriers to care and encouraged families to take proactive steps toward better health."
For over ten years, Ochsner Health has worked with Iberville Parish on bringing healthcare closer through ongoing collaboration that expands preventive services and community-based programs.
