Yale New Haven Health announced on March 10 the appointment of Arnim Dontes, MBA, as its new chief financial officer, effective April 1. Dontes brings significant experience in academic medicine and financial management to the position.
The appointment is seen as an important step for Yale New Haven Health as it continues to focus on growth and long-term sustainability. Christopher O'Connor, chief executive officer of Yale New Haven Health, said, "Arnim's collaborative leadership style and stewardship of large, complex financial enterprises position him well to guide our health system's continued growth and long-term sustainability. I am confident he will be a trusted partner to our clinical and operational leaders as we advance our strategic priorities and continue strengthening our health system."
Dontes previously served as deputy dean for Finance & Administration at Yale School of Medicine for five years. In that role, he managed a $3 billion operating budget and led several key administrative functions including finance, human resources, capital planning, information technology, and administration. He also worked closely with leaders across Yale New Haven Health to improve alignment between the School of Medicine and the health system.
Before joining Yale School of Medicine, Dontes was executive vice president for Business Affairs at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 2011 to 2021. He has also held senior leadership roles at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Dontes holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Illinois Chicago. He has contributed nationally by serving as chair and immediate past chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Business Affairs.
