Colorado man seeks treatment at Ohio State after rare brain tumor diagnosis

On a Friday afternoon, Jeff Chabot, an assistant principal from Colorado, received news that would alter his life. Earlier in the week, he had undergone a brain scan. The results revealed an “enhancing mass” nearly 4 centimeters in size, believed to be chordoma—a rare tumor diagnosed in about one out of every million people annually in the United States.

“I was mortified, not knowing exactly what I had,” Chabot says.

Chordoma is not commonly known among the general public due to its rarity. Seeking specialized care for this diagnosis led Chabot to Ohio State Health and Discovery. This academic medical center includes hospitals and outpatient facilities and focuses on health care, research and education as described on its official website.
