Loughborough University extends partnership with Science in Sport for elite athlete nutrition

Loughborough University and Science in Sport (SiS) have extended their partnership for another three years, continuing their joint efforts in elite sport and performance nutrition. The new agreement builds on an initial three-year collaboration that was based on evidence-based practice.

Under the renewed partnership, SiS will remain the official nutrition partner of Loughborough University. The company will continue to engage with athletes, practitioners, and staff within Loughborough's sports programs. Students will also benefit from placement and internship opportunities provided by SiS. The agreement opens possibilities for further research and development collaborations aimed at driving innovation in performance nutrition through Loughborough’s research capabilities.

The partnership aims to support athletes throughout their careers and enhance working relationships between athletes and practitioners. Athletes will participate in product testing sessions, contributing to SiS’ innovation and development efforts.

SiS has a history of scientific innovation in sports nutrition. In 2025, its scientific team introduced a carbohydrate fueling method using a 1:1 maltodextrin-to-fructose ratio at 120 grams per hour, which influenced endurance guidelines for runners across various distances. The company collaborates with professional organizations such as Tottenham Hotspur, Team INEOS, and British Rowing, emphasizing data-driven research.

As part of the new agreement, SiS becomes the official nutrition partner for several Loughborough Sport teams: men's rugby, men's football first team, and the Loughborough Lightning women's football team. SiS will also serve as headline sponsor for the annual Loughborough International Athletics event. Selected SiS products will be available at facilities across campus.

Dr. Marc Fell, Head of Performance Nutrition at Science in Sport, said: "At SiS, our mission is to push the boundaries of science and nutrition, so athletes can push the boundaries of performance. Deepening our collaboration with Loughborough University is a fantastic milestone as we continue to align ourselves with world-leaders in elite sports. Working together, we can accelerate that mission through the combination of elite-level data, scientific expertise and applied testing environments. The partnership will help us redefine not only how athletes fuel and recover, but what is possible in sport."
