Lawrence + Memorial Hospital recognized by New England Donor Services for donation advocacy

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital (L+M), part of Yale New Haven Health, has received recognition from New England Donor Services (NEDS) for its support of organ and tissue donation efforts in 2025.

The NEDS Hospital Recognition Awards Program honors hospitals that demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting donation awareness and advancing the mission to save and heal lives through transplantation. L+M was acknowledged for its work in community outreach, staff involvement, and honoring donors and their families.

Throughout 2025, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital organized several events aimed at educating the public about organ and tissue donation. The hospital also supported donor families and highlighted the importance of these donations through activities such as honor walks, an annual Donate Life flag raising in April, and other educational initiatives. In the past year, L+M reported one organ donor and 16 tissue donors.

Oliver Mayorga, MD, chief medical officer at L+M, stated: “This recognition reflects the extraordinary dedication of our clinicians, staff, and partners who work every day to support the gift of life. We are proud to stand with New England Donor Services in honoring donors and their families, and in raising awareness of the profound impact organ and tissue donation has on our communities.”

New England Donor Services commended Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for its ongoing partnership and continuous work to raise awareness among both donor families and recipients. Craig Tucker, senior director of Donation Strategy at NEDS said: “We are deeply grateful for the unwavering commitment of the Lawrence +Memorial Hospital team. Their passion for donation advocacy and their dedication to honoring donor families truly exemplify what this partnership is about.”

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital is a non-profit institution with 308 beds serving southeastern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island since 1912. It provides care across multiple specialties including cardiac services with both emergency and elective angioplasty procedures.
