The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) at Yale New Haven Hospital's Milford Campus has been named one of the top physical rehabilitation centers in the Northeast by Newsweek, ranking eighth in the region. The recognition highlights the facility's role in helping patients recover from severe illnesses or injuries through intensive therapy provided by multidisciplinary teams.
According to Necolle Morgado-Vega, DO, medical director of the IRU, "By providing intensive, coordinated therapy in a supportive hospital setting, inpatient rehabilitation helps patients achieve better outcomes, return home safely and reduce the risk of complications or readmission. It’s not just about recovery, it’s about restoring quality of life by helping patients regain strength, independence and confidence."
Newsweek’s annual list evaluates more than 1,000 inpatient physical rehabilitation centers across the United States. Of these, 320 are recognized as America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers based on surveys of experts, quality metrics and accreditation data. States with the highest number of facilities are ranked individually; others are grouped into regions such as Northeast, Midwest, West and South. The Milford Campus IRU was also identified as Connecticut’s top-performing center.
Yale New Haven Hospital is part of Yale New Haven Health and serves as the main teaching hospital for Yale School of Medicine. With 1,541 beds and a staff that includes around 4,500 physicians across more than 100 specialties, it is among the nation’s largest not-for-profit hospitals. The hospital operates several specialized campuses including children’s and psychiatric hospitals as well as Smilow Cancer Hospital. It has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence.
