Westerly Hospital receives top safety grade from The Leapfrog Group

Westerly Hospital has received an “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group in its Fall 2025 report. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that evaluates hospitals on patient safety using more than 30 measures, including errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.

Richard Lisitano, president of Westerly Hospital, stated, “At Westerly Hospital, patient safety is our top priority and the foundation of every interaction, decision and care plan. I’m proud to recognize our dedicated team for their exceptional performance and unwavering commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care. Their collaboration and focus continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.”

Oliver Mayorga, MD, chief medical officer at Westerly Hospital added, “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and excellence of our entire team at Westerly Hospital. As a high reliability organization, we are committed to consistently delivering safe, efficient and high-quality care. This achievement reflects our unwavering focus on patient safety and clinical excellence.”

The hospital also earned an “A” grade in Leapfrog’s Spring 2025 report as well as in Fall 2022. Another member of Yale New Haven Health—Greenwich Hospital—received “A” grades in both Spring and Fall 2023 reports as well as Fall 2022.

Leapfrog’s grading system rates general hospitals across the United States based on their ability to prevent harm through systems that address errors and infections. Grades are updated twice each year following peer review.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group said: “Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Westerly Hospital made a true commitment to put patient safety first. We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
