Oracle Health and Life Sciences has announced a partnership with Baylor College of Medicine to advance research into alcohol-related liver disease (ALD), which is becoming one of the leading causes of liver illness and death in the United States.
The collaboration will allow Baylor to use Oracle Health’s artificial intelligence data platform and real-world data, which includes more than 120 million anonymized patient records. With these resources, Baylor aims to build one of the largest ALD patient cohorts in the country, targeting over one million patients. The goal is to support research that could lead to earlier detection of ALD, improve understanding of how the disease progresses, and inform better prevention and treatment methods.
“Alcohol-related liver disease represents a critical public health challenge, and earlier identification is key to changing outcomes,” said Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences. “With Oracle’s robust data and analytics capabilities and Baylor’s expertise in clinical research and patient care, we have the opportunity to help transform how this condition is studied, diagnosed, and treated.”
Baylor researchers plan to use Oracle’s datasets along with AI tools to identify patterns, risk factors, and predictive markers related to ALD progression. The aim is for clinicians to gain insights that can help improve patient care while also informing broader public health strategies.

Recent reports show that cases of alcohol-related liver disease are increasing in the U.S., especially among younger people. This joint effort between Oracle Health and Baylor College of Medicine brings together advanced technology with academic medical research as part of efforts to address urgent healthcare issues.
