American Lung Association advises on lung protection amid extreme heat

As extreme heat impacts south Louisiana, the American Lung Association has issued advice to help residents protect their health. The inhalation of hot, humid air can lead to narrowed airways and increased airway inflammation, resulting in shortness of breath.

This advice is crucial for over 370,000 residents in south Louisiana who suffer from lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and lung cancer. Children and older adults are also at risk. However, anyone could experience respiratory symptoms when exposed to hot, humid conditions.
