American Lung Association releases educational series with Memorial Healthcare System

A three-part educational series on lung disease prevention and advancements in lung health is now accessible on demand. The American Lung Association in Florida has acknowledged Memorial Healthcare System for its collaboration on the South Florida Community Connections speaker series, which began last fall.

Dr. Mark Block, chief of Thoracic Surgery at Memorial Healthcare System and vice chair of the Lung Association’s South Florida Leadership Board, stated, “As one of the largest public healthcare systems in the country, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care, and that means meeting patients where they are.” He added that the series was a natural extension of their mission to share trusted health information with the community. "We’re proud to partner with the American Lung Association on this important initiative.”

Hernan Millan, chair of the Lung Association’s South Florida Leadership Board and first vice president at Amerant Bank, expressed gratitude for Memorial's commitment to lung health. “More than 3.2 million people in Florida live with lung cancer and lung disease," he noted. "Together with Memorial, we are helping bridge the information gap with this free educational resource.”

The events featured experts from Memorial leading discussions on topics such as lung cancer diagnostics and teen vaping. Millan emphasized that they selected topics relevant to community needs: “We’re pleased to make these webinars available so that viewers can empower themselves with information.”

Two installments from South Florida Community Connections by Memorial Healthcare System are available online.

In October, a special event took place when the Lung Association joined Memorial Cancer Institute for a tour showcasing new technology enhancing lung cancer screening and treatment. This tour was led by Dr. Block.
