The American Lung Association in New York is marking the 10th anniversary of the LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley. The event, which has significantly impacted lung cancer survivors and their families, will take place on June 14, 2025, at Manhattanville University. Dr. Stephanie Smith-Marrone, Medical Site Director at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Cancer Center, will be honored for her contributions to lung cancer treatment.
Since its beginning, the walk has raised over $900,000 for lung cancer research and awareness programs. This year’s event aims to surpass the $1 million mark. Participants can choose between a 1-mile or a 2-mile route on campus and are encouraged to register at LUNGFORCE.org/HudsonValley.
Dr. Smith-Marrone expressed her gratitude for being named this year's medical honoree: "I am so honored to be the medical honoree for this year's Lung Force Walk Hudson Valley! We have more work to do in the fight against lung cancer, but many new and effective treatment options have meant my patients are living longer and with less side effects."
Erica Masin, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Metro New York, highlighted the progress made against lung cancer: “Thanks to the dedication of our amazing volunteers and participants, the LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley has raised over $900,000 to help end lung cancer." She added that survival rates have increased by over 50% in recent years.
The event is supported by sponsors such as Northwell Health, White Plains Hospital, and NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester. Funds raised will support efforts to defeat lung cancer and improve air quality.
