Baylor College of Medicine and The Texas Heart Institute have announced a strategic integration to form a leading cardiovascular health and research center. This new entity, named The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine, will unite two prominent programs in cardiovascular medicine with the aim of enhancing patient care, advancing medical research, and strengthening educational efforts.
Dr. Joseph G. Rogers, who is currently the president and CEO of THI and holds a faculty position at Baylor, will lead the integrated center. The collaboration aims to combine Baylor’s expertise in healthcare, research, and education with THI’s dedication to clinical and research excellence. The initiative will be based at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Dr. Paul Klotman, President and CEO of Baylor, expressed optimism about the partnership: “It makes sense to bring these two historically strong programs together to better serve patients locally, nationally and internationally.” He added that the agreement would primarily benefit the community.
Eric D. Wade, Chairman of THI’s Board of Trustees, echoed this sentiment: “Baylor and THI share a vision to be the world’s leading cardiovascular center.” He highlighted that combining resources from both institutions would further their common goal in advancing cardiovascular medicine.
The integration process is expected to unfold over five years with plans for raising additional funds for full integration into Baylor's academic and clinical frameworks. Leaders from both organizations are working on establishing a timeline for this phased consolidation.
“We are committed to leading the national narrative in cardiovascular quality,” said Dr. Rogers. “Together, we will build on our shared history of clinical excellence and scientific impact.”
