Baylor honors educational leaders at annual Faculty Awards Day

Baylor College of Medicine’s top educational leaders were honored at the annual Faculty Awards Day, held this past week at the Texas Medical Center campus.

“Today, we honor our outstanding clinicians and educators, as well as faculty whose service impacts the Baylor community and beyond,” said Dr. Biykem Bozkurt, senior dean of faculty and presenter for Faculty Awards Day.

Established in 1999, the Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education recognizes faculty members who have made long-standing, consistent, and highly valued contributions to the educational mission of the College. Recipients become members of the Baylor Society of Presidential Educators and receive $10,000 and a crystal award. The 2024 recipients of the Robertson Presidential Award are Dr. Sandra Haudek, associate professor of medicine, and Dr. Daryl A. Scott, professor of molecular and human genetics. Corby Robertson of the Robertson family joined the Baylor community to present this award.

The John P. McGovern Outstanding Teaching Awards were established in 1986 and are determined by second-, third-, and fourth-year medical students based on outstanding teaching of preclinical or foundational and clinical medical school curriculum. The nominees are approved by the Faculty Awards Committee. The 2024 recipients of the McGovern Teaching Awards are Dr. Atul Maheshwari, associate professor of neurology, and Dr. Andrew Caruso, associate professor of medicine.

Established in 2017, the Clark Faculty Service Award honors faculty members whose exemplary service with professionalism has not previously been recognized through an official award by the College. Recipients represent their professions and Baylor’s mission, vision, and values at the highest level and have made significant enduring contributions to the College. Recipients for 2024 are Dr. Claire E. Bocchini, assistant professor of pediatrics; Dr. Seema R. Lalani, professor of molecular and human genetics; Dr. Phuong T. Nguyen, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences; Dr. Regina Okhuysen-Cawley, associate professor of pediatrics; and Dr. Eric Storch, professor and vice chair of psychology in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
