The American Lung Association in Rhode Island is set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the LUNG FORCE Walk in Providence, recognizing its significant impact on the local community, survivors, and families. This year's event will be held at Roger Williams Park - Temple to Music on June 22.
The LUNG FORCE Walk aims to raise critical funds for lung cancer research, early detection initiatives, and awareness. Participants will walk a 2-mile route at Roger Williams Park - Temple to Music. Registration for the event is currently open at LUNGFORCE.org/Providence.
In 2024, the American Lung Association marks not only a decade of its LUNG FORCE initiative but also celebrates 120 years since its founding in 1904. The organization has been dedicated to defeating lung cancer through education, advocacy, and research.
“Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers, participants and LUNG FORCE Heroes, we are truly making an impact on lung cancer in Rhode Island. We are so proud that here in Providence, the LUNG FORCE Walk has raised over $400,000 to help end lung cancer – and this year we hope to hit the half-million-dollar mark! Nationally, since 2014, LUNG FORCE has raised more than $30 million for lifesaving lung cancer research, expanding our research commitment by 286%,” said Daniel Bowler, Executive Director at the Lung Association.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among people in the U.S., with someone diagnosed approximately every two minutes. However, there is progress; survival rates have increased by over 50% in the past decade.
LUNG FORCE Walk events offer an opportunity for friends, family members, and company teams to support individuals with lung disease and lung cancer while enjoying physical activity. Participation supports the American Lung Association's efforts to defeat lung cancer, improve air quality, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families, and eliminate tobacco use and related diseases.
The Lung Association encourages nationwide participation in LUNG FORCE Walks. For more information and registration details visit LUNGFORCE.org/Providence.
Local sponsors for this year's event include Daiichi Sankyo Inc., Navigant Credit Union, Rhode Island Society for Respiratory Care, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, AMGEN, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, AstraZeneca, Smartwater and B101 & iHeart Radio.
