Asha Bhalwal, director of the Division of Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology at McGovern Medical School, announced that UTHealth Houston has received accreditation. The Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) granted this accreditation on April 8th.
"This accreditation validates our commitment to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care," said Bhalwal, director of the Division of Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology with, according to Houston's Health University. "This aligns with our mission of patient-centered care and innovation and further emphasizes our dedication to the health and well-being of our patients. Documenting and highlighting these aspects will not only provide recognition, but also inspire confidence among patients and stakeholders in our institution's commitment to excellence in health care delivery."
According to UT Health Houston, in addition to the accreditation, Asha Bhalwal and Alvaro Montreal were named surgeons of excellence. Bhalwal stated that this award signifies the recognition that UT has been striving for and demonstrates a high level of work on an international scale. She further clarified that despite its prestige, not all award-winning programs receive this accolade.
UT Health Houston also shed light on the rigorous process applicants undergo to achieve SRC-granted accreditation. This includes extensive training and work, facility equipment evaluation, clinical pathways assessment, surgical volumes analysis, and standardized operating procedures review. Applicants must also demonstrate dedicated care for patients in their respective areas. Gary Pratt, CEO of SRC, expressed his pride in recognizing UT Health Houston and emphasized how this reflects their level of expertise nationally.
Providing some background information about the institution, UT Health Houston revealed that it was established in 1972 as a center for health care learning and scientific research. It takes pride in serving patients well and houses several disciplines including biomedical sciences, public health, dentistry, and behavioral health sciences. A number of practitioners serve there including those from the Jane and Robert Cizik School of NursingD., Bradley McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, and John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School.
