Summer Sprint to Coverage aims to help Americans sign up for health coverage: 'Please tell your friends and family'

A new summer plan set forth by the Biden administration has the goal of getting more uninsured people to sign up for health coverage.

It's called the "Summer Spring to Coverage," and the plan is aimed at getting more Americans signed up during the final 30 days of the Special Enrollment Period, which ends on Sunday, August 15, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The department said that sign-ups are close to surpassing 2 million people since Feb. 15.

"Across the country, there's a clear demand and need for coverage -- and thanks to President Biden and the American Rescue Plan, it's more affordable than ever on Healthcare.gov," U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said, according to the HHS website. "Health care is a right, not a privilege, and this renewed effort to reach as many Americans as possible in the next 30 days is critical to delivering health care and saving lives. Please tell your friends and family: If you lack health insurance, now is the time to go to Healthcare.gov, find a plan that works and save money."

As a part the campaign, there are a series of testimonial advertisements that feature stories of individuals who have used Healthcare.gov to receive savings on their health coverage. The HHS department said testimonials will run during prime-time television programming and on digital platforms during big events like the Olympics.

Compared to 2020, enrollment remained stable this year, Healthcare Finance reported. In the next month, consumers can update or create a new application and enroll or change their current plan selection.

"Now is the time for Americans to act," Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure said, according to Healthcare Finance. "The peace of mind that comes with having health coverage for you and your family is priceless. With costs at an all-time low, this is an excellent opportunity for Americans to select a quality health care plan that works best for them."
