Societi finds no evidence linking COVID-19 and Kawasaki disease

Societi, a UK Kawasaki Disease Foundation, said that there isn't any evidence linking children who test positive for COVID-19 and having the Kawasaki disease.

Kawasaki disease is a seasonal illness in children, typically occurring in winter and spring, according to Societi. It's an inflammatory disorder that can be triggered by different infections, but recently there have been fewer amounts of cases appearing for this time of the year due to some being incorrectly diagnosed as COVID-19.

While some Kawasaki disease cases are being misdiagnosed, Societi said a child having the disease hasn't proven to increase their chances of having the coronavirus either.

Societi has found that 20 children in the United Kingdom have been diagnosed with Kawasaki disease so far this season. Of those 20, half have tested negative for the coronavirus.

The foundation encourages any families worried for their children to contact National Health Service 111 or a physician.
