American Health Policy Institute CEO says Azar is 'right guy' to lead HHS

American Health Policy Institute’s CEO Tevi Troy recently commented on President Donald Trump’s nomination of Alex Azar as Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary.

"He seems like the right guy," Troy said in a statement.

The conservative Troy had previously worked with Azar during President George W. Bush's administration, according to the statement. Azar was then the deputy secretary of HHS, while Troy worked in the White House; Troy later succeeded Azar in the deputy secretary role.

Since Azar has already worked at HHS, he knows firsthand the responsibilities of the agency, the statement said. Additionally, the post at HHS gave him experience coordinating between the department and the White House.

Another previous HHS official commented on the appointment as well.

"We worked side-by-side on the implementation of Medicare Part D, pandemic preparedness, and Hurricane Katrina recovery," former HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said in the statement. "He is an expert on health policy and HHS operations, as well as a skilled manager. Because he knows the department so well, there may never be (an) HHS secretary better able to hit the ground running than Alex Azar."
