NCAA Woman of the Year Finalist Melian More Than On Track

Thrive like an eagle cross country style. The power-packed and highly motivated Christina Melian is burning rubber like the champ that she is.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award declares Wednesday, that she is among the nine finalists.

Melian is a graduate of Stony Brook Women's cross country track & field with big dreams. Melian said "this is something I have always dreamed about but never actually thought would come true, so to see all of this come together is just surreal and incredibly humbling."

Her track record consistently reflects her focus and higher level of thinking. She graduated with a 3.92 GPA and soars in attaining and retaining the apex of achievement.

Everything she touches and involves herself with is far from nugget-sized. She has served in numerous areas that have catapulted her to immeasurable success.

Case in point, she has graced serving as a student ambassador, captain of the cross country and track and field teams, and has immerged in pivotal leadership roles for the university to name a few.

Her honors and accolades are numerous and wide like the ocean waves. As a matter of fact, they can easily be sited as the length of an algebraic equation times 10. Some include America East Elite 17 Award, State University of New York Chancellor's Scholar Athletic Award to name a couple.

Vibrant and eclectic in every right, and not surprsingly,  Melian has also shined in Stony Brook at an under 40 event in New York City as well.

A true winner that marks the time of 15:48.77 with no problem for the indoor track and field 5-kilometer event, she is sure to boast like the champ she is and fly like an eagle.

The NCAA Committee will announce the winnter Oct 22.
