NIH Clinical Center earns top honors for patient emotional care

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center of Bethesda, Maryland, recently was honored with the 2017 Excellence Award from National Research Corporation (NRC) Health after receiving outstanding ratings by patients and families in the area of emotional support.

NRC Health provides benchmarking tools for the health care industry to enhance patient and practitioner experience, acknowledging outstanding hospital and facility performance on an annual basis.

NRC Health Senior Vice President of Client Service Helen Hrdy conveyed congratulations to NIH Clinical Center “for embodying human understanding and demonstrating a commitment to patient-centered care.” an NIH release said.

The awards were officially distributed to a total of 30 winners for respective achievements during the time period between April 2016 and March 2017 at the 23rd annual NRC Health Symposium for Patient-Centered Care in Boston in August.

“Compassion for our patients and their families is one of our guiding principles,” NIH Clinical Center CEO James Gilman said in the release. “Our staff understand(s) that as a world class research facility we must provide the very best in safe, high quality patient-centric care and support. This is a particularly meaningful award in which every Clinical Center employee will take great pride.”
