Obama gives speech at 'Frontiers' conference in Pittsburgh

At last week’s “Frontiers” conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, President Barack Obama gave a talk about his Precision Medicine Initiative.

In his speech, the president talked about interoperability, a key component of the 21st Century Cures Act.

21st Century Cures legislation aims to end existing barriers to the sharing and analyzing of health data generated through research and clinical settings. The House Energy and Commerce Committee believes there is a collective urgency to meet 21st Century Cures’ goals, stemming from the recent collaborative nature of industry, agencies, patient advocates and medical professionals.

Vice President Joe Biden issued a new report that furthers such collaborative efforts, addressing cancer on multiple fronts: prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
