MT Pharma America becomes corporate sponsor for ALS

MT Pharma America recently decided to sponsor the Walk to Defeat ALS, a movement with more than 170 events each year throughout U.S. communities, according to the ALS Association.

The initiative assists in supporting cutting-edge research, care service programs and nationwide advocacy efforts for patients with ALS as well as their families. This MT Pharma America support is the biggest corporate contribution that the event has received this year.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift from MT Pharma America, which will help further our efforts to educate communities about ALS and to generate support to defeat it,” President and CEO Barbara Newhouse said.

ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease, damages the nerve cells located in the spinal cord and the brain. People with ALS gradually lose all ability to move or control their muscles, resulting in paralysis and eventual death -- typically just two to five years after receiving a diagnosis. Scientists have not yet discovered why veterans are two times more likely to develop ALS than the rest of the population.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is one way the ALS community helps to inspire hope for a better future.

“We recognize the challenges that people with ALS and their families face and are proud to support the association in its work to increase awareness and funding at a national and local level,” Atsushi Fujimoto, president of MT Pharma America, said. “We believe that -- by working together -- we can discover and deliver innovative solutions that address the many needs of people living with ALS today.”
