Navient Foundation sponsors 2016 Wilmington Heart Walk

The Navient Foundation recently sponsored the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2016 Wilmington Heart Walk, which raises funds to help save people from the top U.S. killers: stroke and heart disease.

Employees at Navient participated in the walk with another 2,000 volunteers and participants. The event started at Dravo Plaza, nearby Navient’s headquarters. Navient used its company-sponsored philanthropic funds to finance the event.

“Thanks to the support of local businesses and individual donors, the Heart Walk raises thousands of dollars to support the mission work of the American Heart Association,” John Pierson, executive director of the AHA's Delaware Division, said. “We’re grateful to have both the financial support and the participation of the Navient Foundation and of Navient’s employees.”

The walk was held on Sept. 11. There were other activities as well, like health screenings and a children’s fun zone, which started at 8 a.m.

The purpose of the walk was to encourage physical activity as well as heart-healthy lifestyles in the middle of a fun, family-oriented environment.

“The 2016 Wilmington Heart Walk is a great way to bring people from the community together who have a common goal of ending cardiovascular disease,” Clem Straker, director of Navient, said. “So many of us have been personally affected, so we are looking forward to participating and supporting such an important cause.”
