Currently, Smiley is the senior vice president of finance as well as the controller and chief financial officer of Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL). He will begin fulfilling his new role on Oct. 1. His direct supervisor will be Derica Rice, executive vice president of global sales and chief financial officer.

"Josh's knowledge and skill helped to place Lilly in a position of strength," Rice said. "Josh is a strong analytical and strategic thinker who excels at distilling complex business matters into clear thoughts and actions."

Ashkenazi, in turn, will be take Smiley’s place as the vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Lilly Manufacturing, Global Quality and Lilly Diabetes.

Grein has worked for the company for 41 years; he has been a major leader throughout his career. He guided the company through financial security, prosperity and concern. Furthermore, he was instrumental to the company’s latest period of growth.

"With Tom's guidance, we maintained a strong balance sheet and cash flow that enabled us to make acquisitions and sustain our dividend commitment to Lilly shareholders -- even when times were tough," Rice said.
