New roadmap released for lupus health insurance coverage

Leaders with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced the launch of its new initiative, called "From Coverage to Care: A Roadmap to Better Care and a Healthier You."

People who live with lupus know that it takes expertise and finesse to find the health care that they need -- even more so when it comes to paying for the care. This overwhelming task may be simplified with the new initiative.

With CMS’ new initiative, the guidelines will help people living with lupus better understand their health coverage. The guidelines will also provide options and approaches for patients to find health care services that fit patients’ unique circumstances.

In addition, the Roadmap to Better Care offers important advice about understanding health coverage, finding health care and making preparations for a doctor’s visit.

Patients can use the guidelines in a variety of ways, from an in-depth guide to a convenient reference as needed. The roadmap includes helpful examples. There are definitions of common health care resources, as well as terms.

There are also services available online through CMS. Patients can find information in the health insurance section or find explanations about various health insurance options and how to apply.
