The National Health Council (NHC) board of directors recently elected two new members during its meeting on June 14, effectively replacing its two retiring board members.
The new members are Kevin Hagan, CEO of the American Diabetes Association, and Richard Pops, chairman and CEO of Alkermes.
The NHC board intends to focus on improving focus on certain policy issues, including heightening how patient opinions are used in quality, value, payment models and system design. Another important issue is improving the marketplaces for health insurance and guaranteeing that people who have chronic conditions receive protection.
Board members also hope to unite patient voices for the industry and FDA as these agencies make user fee agreements and encourage patient perspectives to be part of regulating and developing medical products.
The goal is to collaborate with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions as the council strives to gain approval for the Innovation for Healthier Americans legislation.
The NHC unites the health community as a single voice that represents over 133 million people who have chronic disabilities and diseases, as well as their family and caregivers. It envelopes over 100 national health-related businesses and organizations.
