Arena Pharmaceuticals recently named Amit Munshi, a veteran with more than 25 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, as its new president, CEO and interim principal financial officer.
Munshi accepted his new duties on May 11. In addition to his formal title, he will also be part of the board of directors at the company after the company’s 2016 annual stockholders’ meeting on June 13.
Munshi's experience in the worldwide biopharmaceutical industry includes positions in business development, executive management, portfolio management and product development.
"Amit is a seasoned biopharmaceutical executive with the diverse experience and skill set necessary to lead Arena to its next phase of growth," Tina Nova, chair of the Arena CEO Search Committee, said. "As a company, we have made progress in aligning our focus with our core strengths over the past several months, and the board looks forward to Amit's leadership as we advance our therapeutic pipeline and drive toward important milestones."
Harry Hixson Jr. previously served as interim CEO, as well as interim principal financial officer and director. He will continue to assist the company on its board of directors.
"Additionally, on behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank Dr. Hixson for his leadership of the company during this transitional phase," Nova said.
