National Health Council welcomes newly elected officers, board members

The National Health Council (NHC) has announced its new officers and board members for 2016.

NHC members come from all areas of health care. They represent 133 people living with chronic diseases and disabilities, as well as caregivers.

NHC members belong to more than 100 health-related organizations and businesses, professional and membership associations, nonprofit organizations and pharmaceutical, medical device, health insurance and biotechnology companies.

In 2016, the NHC board will work in tandem with the health insurance marketplace; medical product companies; the Senate Committee on Health, Education and Labor; and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on a number of projects.

New NHC officers include chairperson Tracy Hart, CEO of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation; treasurer Paul Pomerantz, CEO of the American Society of Anesthesiologists; chairperson-elect Cynthia Zagieboylo, president and CEO of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; secretary Michael Rosenblatt, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Merck & Co.; and vice chairperson Robert Gebbia, CEO of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Those elected to the NHC's 2016 board of directors were Margaret Anderson, executive director of FasterCures, A Center of the Milken Institute; Donald Schumacher, president and CEO of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organizations; Harold Paz, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Aetna; Sue Sherman, executive director of the LAM Foundation; Gary Reedy, CEO of the American Cancer Society; and Stephen Ubl, president and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.
