American Lung Association Marks 10 Years of Progress in Ending Lung Cancer

The American Lung Association is commemorating a decade of progress with the 10th anniversary celebration of LUNG FORCE and Turquoise Takeover. This marks an important milestone in the fight against lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. The organization's efforts during Lung Cancer Action Week (May 6-12, 2024) aim to raise awareness, share stories of hope, and inspire action to prevent and detect the disease early.

Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association, stated, "We're proud to mark a decade of progress with the 10th anniversary of LUNG FORCE and Turquoise Takeover. In the last 10 years, we have seen incredible advancements in early diagnosis, treatment and survivorship from lung cancer."

Since its inception in 2014, LUNG FORCE has raised over $30 million for lung cancer research, expanding its research commitment significantly. The organization focuses on education, advocacy, and research to reduce the number of diagnoses and improve outcomes for those living with the disease.

The annual Lung Cancer Action Week and Turquoise Takeover initiative unite Americans in the fight against lung cancer. The organization encourages the public to participate by wearing turquoise, sharing selfies on social media, and listening to stories of those affected by lung cancer.

The American Lung Association provides six actionable steps for individuals to contribute to the fight against lung cancer. The organization highlights the progress made in early detection and treatment, leading to a notable increase in survival rates over the past decade.
