American Lung Association Recognized for Innovative Work to Help People with Advanced Lung Disease

At the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) 2024 Annual Summit, the American Lung Association was honored with the NPHI Healthcare in Action Innovation Award. Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the Lung Association, accepted the award at the conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

"The Healthcare in Action Innovation Award is a prestigious accolade given by NPHI that celebrates organizations that epitomize the pioneering spirit of innovation in healthcare, envisioning and implementing groundbreaking solutions to address the evolving challenges of end-of-life care and beyond," Wimmer stated.

The Lung Association was recognized for their efforts to enhance the quality of life for individuals with advanced lung disease through the creation of the "Advanced Lung Care Patient and Caregiver Guide," developed in collaboration with NPHI.

Wimmer emphasized the importance of organizations like the American Lung Association and NPHI working together to improve the lives of the 34 million people in the U.S. living with chronic lung diseases.

Tom Koutsoumpas, CEO of NPHI, expressed his appreciation, stating, "NPHI is honored to present the Healthcare in Action Innovation Award to the American Lung Association. Today, we celebrate their ongoing commitment as a health innovator and their relentless pursuit of health equity for all."

The "Advanced Lung Care Patient and Caregiver Guide" serves as a valuable home care resource, offering assistance to individuals with chronic lung diseases and their caregivers in managing respiratory symptoms at home. The guide includes tips for symptom management, self-care, medications, diet, advance care planning, and more. It is accessible for free to those living with chronic lung diseases and their families.
